SARC Story: Laila Milad, from Jerusalem to Jordan
Laila Milad with Tony Blair
"It was a warm autumn day in 2008, as I finished packing my bags and loaded them and my semi-drugged cat into my car. As I left Jerusalem and made my way down into the Jordan Valley en route to Amman, it was with very mixed feelings - I was eager to start a new job with the Office of the UN Resident Coordinator for Jordan, but also sad to leave behind colleagues, friends, and Jerusalem and the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) which for good and bad had been my home for three very eventful years." Read Laila' story...

Home Leave Entitlements
Home leaveWe are still in period of summer holidays and the planning of home leave for the summer is ongoing... if not already done. The queries then also come along, e.g. on how Home Leave points are accumulated and who processes the relevant payments. You will find most of the answers to those questions and useful information about the Home Leave entitlement on the dedicated pages on the UNDP intranet or on UN.org. The UNDP Home Leave Guidelines also provide detailed information. Enjoy your holidays!

Ethics advice...

Ethics adviceAs UN staff, we must perform at the highest standards of integrity, required by the Charter of the United Nations. Even if we have been trained and we are fully aware of how to comply with these standards, it is always convenient to refresh our knowledge from time to time. Let's make a small test:

May we sign petitions from organizations such as human rights organizations or NGOs? Yes / No

There will be a pro-human rights demonstration in the capital at my duty station. Am I allowed to attend since the UN defends and promotes human rights? Yes / No

May we be outspoken about our views (i.e. political) on Facebook, blogs, and such virtual tools? Yes / No

Regarding the approval for an outside activity, if engaging in a similar activity (or second "phase" of the same activity) for which the approval for outside activity was already received, do we have to re-submit the request form? Yes / No

If you replied yes to any of these questions or even hesitated on your response, you may want to have a look at the following article.
