Welcome to the Skyping JPOs webpage
The JPO Service Centre is conducting a
pilot project, where we will supplement normal telephony with
computer based telephony also known as Voice over IP (VoIP). All
participants will receive a headset and a webcam.
For the pilot project, we have chosen Skype (www.skype.com)
as the VoIP-software. With Skype, you will be able to call other users of
Skype for free, using the internet.
Use the navigation buttons above and:
- Get help to install your headset, webcam and Skype
- Search and call other participating JPOs - Remember to submit your "Skype Name" to jpo.registry@undp.org once you have registered with Skype.
- Search and call HR Associates in the JPO Service Centre
- Look for Q & A including tips and tricks.
For this project, we have chosen to equip all staff in the JPO Service Centre with webcams and headsets and send out webcams and headsets to all JPOs, who started their assignment before 1 February 2006, and have more than 1 year left of their JPO assignment by 1 February 2006, which amount to approx. 120 JPOs.
What is the purpose
The project goal is to analyze whether VoIP can be used in UNDP? What are the pros and cons? Will it change the way we communicate? Will VoIP (including video) strengthen the knowledge-sharing and communication in practice communities, between JPO's? etc
We recognize the IT infrastructure in all countries/country offices may not be ready for using VoIP, but these findings will then be an important part of the evaluation of whether VoIP can be used on a global scale in UNDP.
Project milestones
